Firearms Rights: News & Updates

Are Your Second Amendment Rights Being Upheld?

Whether it be for self-defense, property protection, or hobbies such as hunting, owning a gun is a right guaranteed to every eligible American citizen. Your second amendment rights give you permission to own firearms. Although this is a federally granted right, there are unique laws in place on a state-by-state basis. Rainier Law can help you understand your rights and explain state firearms restrictions. We have helped many clients who have been denied the right to own firearms achieve favorable outcomes and offer free consultations. To schedule a case review, call our office at (425)485-6600.

About Your Second Amendment Rights

Adopted in 1791, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The amendment was agreed upon to prevent the federal government from infringing on the rights of its ordinary citizenry to bear arms. Although ordinary civilians no longer need household weapons to participate in militia duties, there are a variety of reasons why you might need a firearm including defense against common criminals, hunting, and other recreational activities.

Since then, many debates have arisen about who this amendment applies to and what exactly it means. In 2010, the US Supreme Court decided that these rights still applied to the United States and its citizens unrelated to the militia.

David, I was able to purchase a rifle last night with no problems, I was in and out of the store in 30 minutes. It seems everything is working as designed. I cannot express how good it felt to be able to walk in and purchase a rifle like a normal citizen. I have been turned down and put on hold as you know several times and was on edge a bit when I went in, but it worked flawlessly. So I can’t say this enough, but thank YOU very much.
